France selects Robin Campillo’s ‘BPM’ for 2018 Oscar Submission

France’s National Cinema Centre announced this week that Robin Campillo’s BPM (Beats Per Minute) will represent France in the Best Foreign Language category at the 90th Academy Awards next year.

The AIDS-related drama won the Grand Prix at Cannes this year and is set in Paris in the 1990s, when the French government was perceived as lagging behind in its response to the epidemic.

Robin’s 2013 feature Eastern Boys won the jury prize at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and earned a nomination at the French Cesar Awards in 2014.
