New Filmmakers Shine at 2017 Brooklyn Film Festival Awards

Emerging filmmakers Rodrigo Reyes and Katja Benrath scored the top narrative feature and shorts prizes respectively at the 2017 Brooklyn Film Festival.

Mexican director Rodrigo Reyes’ debut feature Lupe Under the Sun won the Grand Chameleon Award and Best Narrative Feature Award. Rodrigo made a name for himself as a documentary filmmaker with the multi-nominated Purgatorio: A Journey Into the Heart of the Border in 2013.

Watu Wote: All of Us from German director Katja Benrath won the Best Narrative Short prize. Katja is a prolific young filmmaker who has produced numerous shorts in recent years including last year’s Tilda.
