#screensparks: Juho Kuosmanen’s Cannes-Winning Second Feature Opens in New York

Finnish filmmaker Juho Kuosmanen’s Cannes-winning second feature The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki opens in New York this week.

The film, which is based on the true story of Finnish boxer Olli Mäki who competed for the 1962 World Featherweight title, was awarded Un Certain Regard at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

‘Olli’ had a successful festival run in 2016, in addition to the Cannes prize, it won the Gold Hugo in Chicago, the Golden Eye in Zurich and the Silver Pardino at Locarno. Juho was also given the Discovery of the Year Award at the European Film Awards.
