#screensparks: Ralitza Petrova’s ‘Godless’ Wins Another Festival Prize

Ralitza Petrova’s debut film Godless scored the Grand Prix award at the Sofia International Film Festival. Ralitza’s 89-minute drama made its biggest mark so far by winning the Golden Leopard for best film at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2016.

The film earned other major awards last year during its festival run, including at Sarajevo, Reykjavik, Seville, Warsaw and Stockholm film festivals. Ralitza was also nominated for the International Critics Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2016. In 2009 she earned a nomination for the Cinefoundation Award at Cannes for her short By The Grace of God.

Godless is about ‘a nurse traffics the ID cards of demented patients on the black market of identity theft. Driven by easy cash, and an addiction to morphine, she struggles to keep tabs on her emotional void, and a growing fear of punishment.’
