#screensparks: Canadian Screen Awards Announces 2017 Shorts Winners

The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television has announced the awards for the three main short film categories at the 2017 Canadian Screen Awards on Sunday night.

Alexandre Dostie’s Mutants scored the award for Best Live Action Short. The short was also named as Best Canadian Short Film at both the Toronto International Film Festival and Whistler Film Festival last year.

Blind Vaysha won Best Animated Short Film for Theodore Ushev. The 8-minute film has made quite an impact, being nominated in Berlinale and at the Annie Awards and culminating in a win at the Chicago International Film Festival and being nominated for an Oscar at the 89th Academy Awards. Rounding out the short film prizes, Erika MacPherson and Katherena Vermette’s short documentary This River won the Best Documentary Short prize.
