#screensparks: joi mcmillon could be first african american woman nominated for editing oscar

Moonlight editor Joi McMillon could become the first African American woman to land an Oscar nomination. McMillon has already earned accolades for her work (she co-edited the film with Nate Sanders) on Barry Jenkins’ buzz-laden film this season, including being named best editor by the San Francisco Film Critics Circle and receiving a nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards next year. McMillon’s next film as editor is Lemon by Janicza Bravo and stars Michael Cera.
