#screensparks: afi preview – palme d’or winning director to screen new short ‘mother’

Palme d’Or-winning director Simón Mesa Soto’s new short Mother is on the roster this year at AFI Fest. The short, about a girl who leaves her neighborhood in the remote hills of Medellin to attend a downtown casting call for a porno film, picked up a nomination at Cannes this year but missed out on the main prize. Mother is Simón’s follow up to Leidi which was one of the most celebrated short films of 2014 – winning the Gold Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival, Best U.K Short at the London Short Film Fest and winning the Palme D’or – to name but a few accolades.
